Description
Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), districts with schools that have failed to make adequate yearly progress for three consecutive years are required to utilize Title I funds to provide tutoring services to students in those schools who qualify for free and reduced lunch (a proxy for socio-economic status). The intent of the law is to provide tutoring services outside of the school day to increase the academic performance of those students on the state assessment.
