Fans watch sporting events every day. But only a few are truly unforgettable. In 1887 the Newark Little Giants were to play against the Chicago White Stockings. Set to be starting pitcher was George Stovey, a black pitcher. But the manager of Chicago's team refused to allow his team play against a team with a black player.,Discrimination was the law of the day, and in 1900, black players were not allowed in organized baseball. Stovey was not the first or the last player to be prevented from playing baseball. But in 1945, (after WW II) Black players were slowly allowed to play baseball in major leagues.
