Description
It is shown that a general class of nonlinear partial differential equations -- including those frequently used in predicting atmospheric motions -- can be converted to computational form by either the "finite difference" or "spectral" method to yield formally identical equations.

Description
A one-layer bulk boundary layer model is developed following earlier work by Randall and Moeng. The model predicts the mixed layer values of the potential temperature, mixing ratio, and u- and v-momentum. The model also predicts the depth of the boundary layer and the vertically integrated turbulence kinetic energy (TKE).

Description
A linear theory is given for the case of steady thermal convection in a stratified fluid with a general thermal boundary condition at the upper and lower limits of the system. The theory is applied to a number of fluid systems and the results are discussed in terms of the Rayleigh number, the horizontal wave number and the vertical velocity and temperature perturbation profiles in the vertical.

Description
Analytical and numerical studies were made of single point moorings of a large disc buoy in deep water. Waves of different frequencies and winds of different magnitudes were imposed on moorings of different scopes for nylon ropes. The numerical model results compared favorably with analytical solutions for a straight vibrating string and the buoy motion was validated with the results from a hydraulic model study.

Description
This paper presents a diagnostic study of two models proposed by Betts (1973a). The first was a model for a well-mixed sub-cloud layer capped by a more stable transition layer. The downward heat flux at the base of this transition layer is here estimated from the thermal structure of the layer to be 15-25% of the surface sensible heat flux. The second model was a model for a two layer lapse-rate structure for the cumulus layer. A sensitivity analysis...

Introductory Statistics is designed for the one-semester, introduction to statistics course and is geared toward students majoring in fields other than math or engineering. This text assumes students have been exposed to intermediate algebra, and it focuses on the applications of statistical knowledge rather than the theory behind it. The foundation of this textbook is Collaborative Statistics, by Barbara Illowsky and Susan Dean.--Provided by publisher...

"Aladdin's Lamp is the fascinating story of how ancient Greek philosophy and science began in the sixth century B.C. and, during the next millennium, spread across the Greco-Roman world, producing the remarkable discoveries and theories of Thales, Pythagoras, Hippocrates, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Archimedes, Galen, Ptolemy, and many others. John Freely explains how, as the Dark Ages shrouded Europe, scholars in medieval Baghdad translated the works...
